What Is Experiment Zone?

M

Experiment Zone is a monthly membership that delivers fun, hands-on science experiments. Each month, you’ll receive detailed instructions on how to conduct exciting experiments at home using everyday materials. Please note that all materials and chemicals required are not provided—they’re easy to find at your local supermarket, making Experiment Zone an accessible, low-cost way to explore science without special equipment or complex chemicals.

Supporting Learning with EdPlace

M

In addition to hands-on experiments, the Experiment Zone is enhanced through my partnership with EdPlace, a trusted online learning platform designed to reinforce key concepts and track your child’s progress.

Each month, I assign specific science activities through EdPlace that align with the experiments we’re doing. This means your child can deepen their understanding of the science behind each experiment in a structured, supportive way. You’ll receive regular updates on their performance, giving you a clear view of their growth and any areas that might need extra focus.

Hi there! I’m Alison Green and I’m passionate about making science fun, accessible and engaging for young learners

Before retraining as a qualified chemistry teacher, I worked as a senior scientist developing new medicines. This experience deepened my love for the real-world applications of science and showed me just how exciting hands-on discovery can be. Now, I bring that same excitement to everything I teach, sharing science in a way that sparks curiosity and wonder.

I created the Experiment Zone Membership to inspire children to explore science through hands-on experiments that they can easily do at home. With Experiment Zone, your child will start each lesson by diving into an experiment, using safe, simple materials you can mostly find at the supermarket. My approach focuses on an exploration-first experience, where kids can engage at their own pace, discovering scientific concepts naturally and without the pressure of exams or school-based goals.

Whether your child is a homeschooler, an eager experimenter, or just curious to learn more, Experiment Zone offers a flexible, parent-friendly way to support their love of science. Each month brings a fresh theme, with new experiments designed to show the magic behind everyday science—no need for expensive chemicals or special equipment. Plus, I provide guidance on each experiment to ensure that everything is safe, accessible, and easy to follow.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What age group is the Experiment Zone Membership designed for?

A: The membership is specifically designed for parents with children aged 11-14 (school years 7-9).

Q: What materials will I need for the experiments?

A: Each experiment uses household items or easily accessible materials. Before each experiment, you’ll receive a detailed list of everything you need, so you’ll always be prepared. In some cases, there are optional items that may need to be purchased (e.g., glow-in-the-dark paint), but these are typically affordable and easy to find.

Q: Do I need any prior science knowledge?

A:No prior science knowledge is required!  I provide step-by-step instructions to guide your child through each experiment. Whether your child is new to science or already curious, they will find the experiments both fun and educational.

Q: What do I get each month?

As a member, you’ll receive:

  • New experiment guides every month
  • Step-by-step instructions for each experiment
  • Material lists of items you can easily find at the supermarket or around the house
  • Links to additional resources to explore science concepts further
  • Plus, you’ll receive a FREE EdPlace student account (science access only) to reinforce each month’s experiments with interactive, curriculum-aligned activities.

Q: How much does the membership cost?

A: The Experiment Zone Membership is just £7 per month.

Q: Is the membership flexible? Can I cancel anytime?

A: Yes! The membership is completely flexible. You can cancel at any time, with no commitment. You’ll still have access until the end of the month you’ve paid for.

Q: Will my child be able to do the experiments on their own?

A: While many of the experiments are simple and fun, adult supervision is required for all experiments. Some materials may cause skin or eye irritation if not handled properly. I recommend that parents or guardians are present to ensure safety during the experiments.

Q: What if I have more than one child?

A: You’re welcome to use the membership for all of your children! Just make sure you have enough materials for everyone to enjoy the experiments together. If you want them to have separate EdPlace accounts then this is an additional £2/month.

Q: Do I get experiment kits in the post?

A: No, this is an online-only membership. You’ll receive digital guides and instructions to carry out the experiments using your own materials. Although in the near future I hope to offer kits containing required materials for an additional cost.
